Ponass Lake
Ponass Lake is located 9.5 kms from the communities of Rose Valley and Fosston
and contains some of the most spectacular wildlife varieties in the north east.
Ponass Lake has
long been considered as a valuable wildlife refuge and in 1980,
the marsh was identified under the Heritage Marsh Program. Since
then there has been significant work to conserve the area. Ponass
Lake is home to hundreds of varieties of birds and animals from
snow geese and pelicans to muskrats and white tail deer. Unfortunately
the lake does not support fishing due to the shallow waters.
Barrier Lake
Also part of the Barrier River system, Barrier Lake is located about 40 kilometers
south east of Tisdale. Barrier Lake is set in a picturesque area covered
with large spruce trees and sandy beaches, which give it a northern zone
atmosphere.
There is abundant
Northern Pike, Walleye and Perch fishing. There is guiding services,
boat/motor rentals, fish filleting and freezing services. Fishing
tackle and licenses, marine/auto fuels are also for sale. There
are 105 electric and 15 non-electric sites available for camping,
and there is cabin rentals and seasonal lease lots are also available.
