The river known as oskatask sipiy in Cree, literally "river of the wild carrot" runs by this town and the town takes its name from the beautiful and fertile Carrot River Valley. The town of Carrot River is situated 10 kilometers south of Highway #55 on #23 and is surrounded by fertile farm land and lush forest as well as some of the best recreational sites in all of Saskatchewan. Pasquia Park, site of "Big Bert", is located just 10 kilometers south of the town and Tobin Lake is just 30 minutes northeast.
The town of Carrot River is a vibrant community of 1200 people with a full range of services and facilities, from banking and confectionery to florists and hardware stores. There is a complete range of tourist services like vacation farms, campsites as well as 120 miles of snowmobile and ATV trails. Carrot River is a hunter's paradise, with trophy moose, deer and elk only minutes away and if you want, the services of several outfitters are available. Carrot River is an active town with hockey and curling in the winter and baseball and golfing in the summer.
